Pregnancy and Birth Control – Are Iud Contraceptive Safe?

A decade ago, it would have been unfeasible for a woman to obtain an in lawsuits (or IUD lawsuit, for that matter) against her own insurance provider. Now, however, the same woman may be able to secure a substantial settlement if her doctor has provided her with an iud, particularly if he or she has been diagnosed with cancer. The fact is that thousands of women have discovered that their doctors have either omitted to provide them with appropriate information about iud’s, such as the risks, or have provided false information about the safety and effectiveness of iud’s. If your doctor has provided you with inaccurate information about iud’s, or if he has refused to give you the correct information, you may be able to bring a lawsuit against him or her on these grounds.

I’m lawsuit settlements can also be brought on other grounds, including because you have suffered pains and suffering as a result of an iud. If you have been diagnosed with endometriosis, you may be able to bring a lawsuit against your physician, because the medications used in the diagnosis have been known to cause endometriosis. (Plaintiffs’ experts generally agree that only one iud is necessary in order to prevent endometriosis; more than two can actually increase the risk of developing the disease.) If you have also been diagnosed with cancer, you may be able to bring a lawsuit against your physician, because the drugs used in the treatment have often been known to cause cancer. (It is worth noting that although cancer is rarely brought on by use of iud, the fact that iud use has increased the incidence of squamous cell carcinoma [the most common form of cancer] in menopausal women supports the plaintiffs’ claims that iud’s should be banned for women seeking to prevent further exposure to iud’s.)

The most common complaint of plaintiffs who have filed our lawsuit is that they have been forced to undergo painful or costly surgery because of its use or its side effects. The fact is that it does not usually cause infection or perforation, unless it is used during the second or third trimester of pregnancy. Perforation of the bladder is rare; usually only cases involving prolonged use of IV for a prolonged period of time are considered to involve this side effect. In any case, it could very well to relieve symptoms but cause painful or even life-threatening surgery in some patients, so it is best to consult with your doctor before beginning treatment with iud.

Many other plaintiffs’ claims center on the fact that it causes pelvic inflammatory disease or PID. Mirena is marketed as a preventative pill for menopausal women, but it can interfere with the effectiveness of certain forms of birth control, particularly those containing hormones. Because Mirena releases progestin, it is designed to prevent ovulation, not to prevent women from getting pregnant. It does this by preventing the release of an egg from the ovary. If a woman has a history of PID, it is possible that she would be able to pass the infection along to her child if she used it while being pregnant.

In addition to the above-mentioned Mirena problems, there have been reports of significantly more severe side effects caused by its use, such as permanent thickening of the lining of the uterus, damage to the fallopian tubes, and cancer of the uterus and fallopian tubes. While serious iud lawsuit cases have been filed against manufacturers of paragard side effects devices, there is no documented evidence that these devices interfere with a woman’s fertility or affect her ability to get pregnant. Most studies have found no evidence that these types of devices interfere with the function of a woman’s reproductive organs.
